Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible

This policy describes how the Jounreal mobile application ("Jounreal", "the app", "we") handles your information. If you have any questions about it, contact us at contact@jounreal.com.

2. Data stored on your device

Everything you create in Jounreal — daily ratings (Journey), text entries (Journal), parameters, tags, goals, time periods and app settings — is stored locally on your device in a database that is encrypted with AES-256. The encryption key is generated on your device and kept in the operating system's secure storage (iOS Keychain).

We do not receive, transmit or store this content on any server. Because it never leaves your device by default, we have no technical ability to access, read or recover your entries.

3. Data we do not collect

• We do not require an account, name, email address or phone number to use the app.
• We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
• We do not build profiles of you and we do not sell or share data with advertisers.
• We do not use artificial intelligence to analyze the content of your entries.

4. Subscriptions and payments

Jounreal offers an optional Premium subscription. Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store, and subscriptions are managed on our behalf by RevenueCat, Inc., our subscription infrastructure provider.

To process and validate a subscription, the following data may be handled:

• An anonymous, app-generated user identifier (not linked to your name or email).
• Purchase and receipt information (which product was bought, status, renewal and expiration dates).
• Basic device and platform information needed to deliver and restore purchases.

This information is used only to provide the subscription, restore purchases, and prevent fraud. Apple's handling of your payment is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy, and RevenueCat's processing is governed by the RevenueCat Privacy Policy. If you never purchase Premium, no subscription data is created.

5. Notifications

If you enable reminders, Jounreal schedules them locally on your device using the operating system. We do not run a notification server and we do not see whether or when you open the app. You can turn reminders off at any time in the app's settings or in your device settings.

6. Data retention and deletion

Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can erase all data from within the app ("reset"), or by deleting the app, which removes its local database and encryption key. Any subscription records held by Apple and RevenueCat are retained according to their own policies.

7. Your rights

Because your journal content lives only on your device, you are always in direct control of it — you can view, edit or delete it at any time without involving us. For the limited subscription data processed by RevenueCat and Apple, you may exercise applicable rights (such as access or deletion under the GDPR) by contacting us at contact@jounreal.com, and we will assist or direct you to the appropriate provider.

8. Children

Jounreal is not directed to children under the age of 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. International transfers

If you purchase Premium, Apple and RevenueCat may process the limited subscription data described above on servers located outside your country, including in the United States, under their respective safeguards.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, highlight them in the app or on this page.

11. A note on what Jounreal is

Jounreal is a personal journaling and self-reflection tool. It is not a medical or diagnostic application. If you are experiencing a crisis, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.
